Our History

Taste of Sicily is an authentic Italian restaurant that arises from the will and the desire of a Sicilian trader, Aldo Campo, and his partner Lino Castelli. Aldo’s aim is spreading and promoting the tastiness and the quality of the Sicilian cooking.

Together they have created a very nice and friendly restaurant, where you can taste excellent dishes that Sicilian tradition has always handed on with love and talent, making use of the products that the land gives them.

Taste of Sicily restaurant represents a little part of a land rich in history, tradition and culture. A mystical portrait, evoked by a background that takes us to a land where reality and folklore are fused.

Sicilian Cuisine

Sicilian cuisine shows traces of all the cultures which established themselves on the island of Sicily over the last two millennia. Although its cuisine has a lot in common with Italian cuisineSicilian food also has Greek, Spanish, French and Arab influences. The Sicilian cook Mithaecus wrote one of the earliest known cookbooks – in any language – in the 5th century BC.

Much of the island’s cuisine encourages the use of fresh vegetables such as eggplant, peppers, and tomatoes, and fish such as tuna, sea bream, sea bass, cuttlefish, and swordfish.

Pasta was introduced in Sicily around the 12th century and forms a major part of its cuisine. Pasta alla Norma (a specialty originated in Catania, an Italian city on the east coast) is one of the most popular pasta dishes typically Sicilian. It is made with tomatoes, fried eggplant, Sicilian Ricotta cheese, and basil. It was reportedly named for the opera Norma by Vincenzo Bellini in 1831. It is one of our featured dishes.

At Taste of Sicily you will find many dishes that stand out for their taste, quality and popularity both national and international. We incorporate Pancetta, cheeses of Ragusa, rusticipesto of dried tomatoes, pistachiocaponata, the cannoli and the famous Sicilian Cassata into our dishes.

You will enjoy these delicacies with good red and white wines, produced with the grapes of local vineyards: Nero d’Avola, Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Donnafugata etc…
